The recently held event at the Valley Ridge Golf & Conference Centre raised over 400,000 dollars for the RMCC (Ronald MacDonald Children’s Charity) The 3 day event featured three celebrity/am shot gun tournaments and the main event day with Wayne Gretzky & Ian Leggatt of the PGA tour challenging Jerome Iginla and Mike Weir the 2003 Master Champion. Over 7500 spectators attended over the three day event culminating in over 4200 spectators for the Monday main event. The Three Celebrity am shot guns featured stars and celebrities from a variety of sports, entertainment and media. Some of those participants were Jamie Sale, David Pelletier, A.J. Eathorne, Jason Zuback, Kelly Hrudy, Jim Peplinski, Alex Mogilny, and many others.

RJH was retained by Valley Ridge to coordinate all aspects of the event working with the event organizer IMG and the various sponsors to ensure a successful event for all participants and spectators. “We are so happy at the end result of this event, in our minds it could not have been any greater success”, said John Brown President of Century group the owners of Valley Ridge. The event which will be televised nationally on Rogers Sports Net in late August or early September will give incredible exposure to the Golf Course and its facilities. “At the start of this event we understood how important it was for Valley Ridge to do it right and that is why we secured the services of Robbie and RJH. It was clear to us that with their previous event management knowledge they could take us over the top and they certainly did with this event, we can hardly wait to see it on national television,” said Martin Piche General manager of Valley Ridge.

Robbie and RJH assisting Martin and Ken Cote the course superintendent decided that Valley Ridge was going to be set up and conditioned in a way that would be similar to the courses the PGA stars play on every week. After having played the course both Mike Weir and Ian Leggatt had nothing but compliments and rave revues about the course. Ian during the press conference was quoted as saying “If we got to putt on greens this good every week our job would be pretty easy”. Both Wayne and Jerome were as forthcoming about the conditions quoting them as some of the best they had ever played on. “Robbie’s background in course conditioning was a huge asset to us, his knowledge about how to get the course to the condition it needed to be in was invaluable to us, we couldn’t have done it without his help”, said Ken Cote

Being involved with such a magnificent event was truly and honor and a privilege. To get to work with Martin, Ken, Rob, Derek, Matt, Chris and the entire Valley Ridge team was a pleasure. They truly are the reason the event was such a success” said Robbie Hellstrom. “The chance to work again with RMCC and most importantly IMG was again an honor. These two organizations are as good as they get. The event is for such a great cause and everyone works so hard together to make it what I consider to be one of the best major golf events in Canada,” concluded Hellstrom.

Valley Ridge Golf & Conference Centre is located on the west end of the City of Calgary and features a 70-26 yard championship golf course and fully integrated Golf Academy under the direction of Derrick Hawes. The facility has undergone significant improvements over the last 3 years and is now considered Calgary’s premium high end Public Facility. From 2000 until 2003 Robbie Hellstrom was retained to oversee the implementation of the improvements and reorientation of the business. RJH maintains its consulting agreement with the Club.
