Weir to Join Gretzky and Friends at the RMCC Wayne Gretzky & Friends presented by ENMAX

Toronto, June 6, 2003: It was announced today that 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir will join Wayne Gretzky at the Valley Ridge Golf and Conference Centre in Calgary on Monday, July 28, 2003. Wayne will team up with Ian Leggatt in competition against Weir and Jarome Iginla. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. Over $500,000 was raised in 2002 making it one of the largest golf fundraisers of its kind in Canada.

Weir, a three-time winner on tour this year, is currently second on the PGA Tour money list and recently climbed to fifth in the world rankings. "When Wayne and everyone involved approached me with the idea, I immediately thought about how fun that would be, playing against Wayne and Ian, with Jarome as my partner," said Weir. "The ultimate winners are the RMCC kids that this event benefits. I look forward to being back in Calgary and seeing everyone."

"It's great to have Mike back for this year's event," said tournament host Wayne Gretzky. "The new format with Ian and myself taking on Mike and Jarome should be exciting for the fans and showcase Canada's two best PGA Tour players. Of course the real winner will be Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. I know the great sports fans of Calgary will want to come out and welcome home our new Masters champion and help a wonderful cause."

Ian Leggatt, a long-time ambassador of Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, and the top Canadian on the PGA Tour in 2002, is looking forward to teeing off against Weir. "This is fantastic news. As everyone knows, RMCC is very important to me. Having a good friend like Mike contribute to this worthy cause is great. However, I'm sure Wayne and I will want to win the green jacket off his back," said Leggatt.

"We are thrilled to welcome back Masters Champion Mike Weir who joins RMCC Ambassador Wayne Gretzky and some of Canada's greatest sports superstars in our never-ending quest to raise funds and awareness for special needs children and their families right across Canada," said Rem Langan, President & CEO of Ronald McDonald Children's Charities of Canada. "We know what a great supporter of children's charities Mike is in Canada and we are so happy he is able to fit this event into his schedule."
